Abiye Mekonnen successfully defends Masters Dissertation

Congratulations are in order for Abiye Mekonnen who has successfully defended his Masters dissertation on Wednesday, April 20, 2016. Previously, Abiye had earned a bachelor degree in Biomedical Engineering from the Virginia Commonwealth University. He has now earned a Masters of Science degree in Chemical Engineering as well.

The topic of his thesis was “Impacts of Varying Hydrodynamic Conditions and Mass Transfer on Staphylococcus aureus Biofilms and Their Resistance to Antimicrobial Agents“, which Abiye prepared under the guidance of Dr. Patrick Ymele-Leki (Thesis advisor) and presented to a faculty committee including Dr. Preethi Chandran (Committee member) and Dr. Ramesh Chawla (Committee chairperson).

Abiye will leave BEDD research group to start a new position as a Process Engineer at Intel Corporation in Oregon with good wishes from his BEDD lab peers.
